Dead Things...

Started walking again to shed and de-fluff. Soooo I’m loving sweating again. It has been way too long.

So obviously I was outside this morning and noticed this tree behind my house with the dead branch. It has been hanging there for a couple of days. Much processing and thought about a dead branch hanging on a live, vibrant and thriving tree. An oak tree that is planted close to water and growing rapidly for an oak.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalms 1:3 (ESV)

This is always one of my favorite passages and I use the chapter as one that I pray over my family. So I am thinking about this strong oak. Thriving. Prospering. Bearing fruit in its season. This is not a sick tree but the maintenance men trimmed the tree and didn't fully cut through the branch so here it hangs. This dead limb. It is still connected enough that it is hanging on but it is dead. Do you have areas in your life like this? You are flourishing, you are thriving and bearing fruit but somewhere...some place...some branch in your life is dead? It is hanging on and you can't shake it. Maybe you are ignoring it hoping it will just finally fall off.

Friends, we may be IN Christ and blessed and even bearing fruit BUT we have to clear out the dead things to FULLY become ALL we were created to be IN Christ. Is the tree still growing? Yes. Still producing leaves and prosperous? Yes. But when we ignore or hide an area of our lives that NEEDS to be pruned and removed we are holding back. We are keeping ourselves from our true destiny. Do we all need to be pruned? Yes. Are there things we need to get rid of? Yes. So don't cling to those dead things. Let them go. Lay them at the foot of the cross and never pick them back up.

The enemy has been working me and calling back up some old shame from my past. Wanting me to revisit that. Wanting me to put my time and attention there. Not nourishing my walk with Christ. Not feeding my heart and mind with God's word. No. He wants me to stay focused on the dead thing. The thing I've already cut off... already given to God. And recently God had been calling me to let go of some dead places that I had hidden and tried to keep secret. Places He KNEW about but I didn’t want to deal with or have anyone know about. But giving Him the dead places instead of stuffing and hiding them brought freedom and life abundantly!

If you are in a place like this, leave the dead things. Cut them off. Old wood. Fire wood. Cut it off and pull it down. It has no claim on you and he (the enemy) has no claim of your time or mind. Throw it in the fire. Stay healthy and vibrant and flourish in your daily walk. Stay firmly rooted and planted and see the schemes of the enemy. Your leaf does not wither and in all you do, you prosper.
